When Shehu and Ruth Garba relocated from Lagos to Abuja in 1995, they faced the problem of finding a suitable school of international standards
in Nigeria’s fast-growing capital city for their four young children. Following a challenging search, they opened Premier International School (PIS) on September 7th, 1997. Starting with 7 students and 3 teachers, PIS has become a national and international landmark for quality education in the Federal Capital Territory and beyond. The first preschool Community Helpers’ Day took place in 1998.
Once the Nursery and Primary School had been established, the Secondary School (also known as the College) opened its doors in 2007 in response to growing demand from parents who wanted continuity in the educational trajectory of their children.
In the spring of 2016, the day care/creche also opened its doors to infants from 6 weeks to 2 years old.
Since its founding in 1997, Premier has maintained three defining characteristics, a commitment to academic excellence, a strong culture of discipline and a focus on the holistic development of children through early exposure to athletics, arts and community service. From being one of the top feeders of Students into the most competitive National Secondary schools such as Loyola Jesuit College to being the undefeated Champions for 8 years in a row of the Nigerian National Turkish Mathematics Challenges, Premier has always strived to provide students with the highest quality of education that will develop their confidence and prepare them for life outside of school.
Although academic excellence has always been at the center of Premier’s educational philosophy, the school has always invested heavily in creating a holistic and interactive educational experience for all its students. Students in the Nursery school enjoy bi-weekly reading sessions in an interactive, audio-visual auditorium called the Jungle Castle where they learn to read by engaging with fun stories. Elementary and Secondary school students have weekly access to the multi-purpose art rooms, music rooms, libraries, technology rooms, resource centre and sports arena. Parents, Students and Teachers enjoy all-day access to fresh, tasty and healthy breakfast, lunch and or dinner options at Chicken & More cafeteria, conveniently located adjacent to the school.
For almost 23 years, graduates of Premier International School have gone on to success in their chosen fields. As the school enters its third decade of educating lives and minds, we welcome you to Premier International School and we invite you to connect with us either online or in person.
